social media metrics of scholarly impact

Hi,
I thought some of you might be interested in our work using social media
activity (blogging, bookmarking, reference managers, microblogging, etc)
to measure scholarly impact. These sources are both 1) much faster than
traditional citations, and
2) offer a broader picture of impact (I might save something I don't cite).

This is a short, popularly-oriented piece, but it includes links to more
