ABSTRACT:
This article illustrates how reference systems that use 'op cit', 'ibid'
and 'idem' and provide a new number for each reference as it appears in the
text cause difficulties for writers, copy-editors and readers. An example
is provided of where an article using this 'op-cit' system ends up with 106
references whereas it would have 42 references using other standard systems.
