TITLE : Beyond Impact Factors: Understanding the data in the Journal
Citation Reports
AUTHOR: McVeigh M.
SOURCE: The Physiologist Vol. 47, No. 6, 2004
ABSTRACT:
In 2004, the Journal Citation Reports on Web (JCR Web<tm>) features a new
interface providing considerably more information about each journal's
citation dynamics, the degree and type of its interactions with the broader
scientific literature, and how citations contribute to the calculation of
performance metrics. This article will provide an overview of two new
features in the 2003 Journal Citation Reports Web - navigational links to
category information and the Cited Journal graph - and some explanation of
their use in understanding the citation behavior of individual journals.
