A very basic question...

I have just subscribed to this list in the hopes of learning a little
more about bibliometrics.  I am a brand new MLS student and will need
to know more about this specific field for an assignment later this
semester.  Right now, I know nothing.  I would appreciate a brief
description and/or definition of bibliometrics to help get me
started.  Thank you
