Dear Friends and Colleagues,
We are now getting close to the ISSI-2001 Conference in Australia in mid-July
this year. The opening Address on Monday (Day One) will be delivered by Dr Henry
Small, Director of Contract Research, ISI, Philadelphia. On Thursday, the
Program Chair, Dr Grant Lewsion of City University, London and the Wellcome
Trust (UK), will deliver a special keynote address.
Over 30 countries have indicated participation at the Conference, many
papers and posters are scheduled plus two special Plenary Sessions. The papers
and the preliminary program are now up on the Web site. The first of the plenary
sessions on Tuesday will discuss the role and use of journal impact measures;
the second, on Friday morning, the new sub-field Cybermetrics will discuss
measurement of flow and impact of Web-based information and sites.
All those wishing to participate are cordially invited to register online
or to email for more information. The early registration discount offer closes
on June 1st - so please register online before then to get this cheaper fee. The
ISSI-2001 web page contains all the registration details.

The Web site also offers information about accommodation options (self-booking
please) and visa application. There is a link to the Sydney meteorological
bureau to check on temperatures (real-time) here in Sydney. Please bring a
pullover and perhaps a small brolly or light raincoat in case ... it is winter
down under. To reassure you, however, the sun still shines fairly frequently
even though it is winter. Another link on the Location page gives current money
exchange rates.
All registered conference attendees will receive a copy of the papers in
the formal ISSI-2001 Proceedings - extra copies will be availabe for sale at a
cost of AUD$95. Participants are also able to attend any sessions (multiple and
plenary) planned during the five days and other events including Sunday
(registration & welcome), the Derek De Solla Price Award ceremony on Monday
evening, the formal Conference Dinner on Tuesday evening, and the Special tour
of Sydney Harbour on Wednesday evening. For accompanying partners and friends,
there is a special rate for the social events of $150.
