[Sigmet-officers] Is there a problem with the sigmet-officers list

Hi Angela,

Thanks for this.  I like the layout of the pages.  As regards the pages: (a) The Paper Contest can already have its own page and (b) Do we want a home page?

Jonathan.

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for persevering with the message below.  I started on a very basic prototype the other day, and it was so simple that I thought I might just be able to code it quickly and send you all a live link, but perhaps it's still better to send the prototype around first for a round of comments.

https://docs.google.com/present/edit?id=0Acrqd3PsUih1ZGZmdmdwd3ZfNDJjc25xd3RkZg&hl=en&authkey=CNDr5kQ

Obviously the content is still in an informal state, but feel free to add to that or comment on the layout/structure/etc.  I put the menu options at the top for this prototype, but we could use the left side if people feel strongly about it.  There are no pages for the "Listserv" and "Membership" items because they will be links to external sites, as previously discussed.

The suggested side boxes are there for a few reasons.  First, I'm not a fan of sites that have text that stretches all the way across the screen, especially with widescreen monitors.  I'd restrict the text to a more comfortable width regardless, but that does offer us the extra space on either side to add things like news items or reminders.  I'm taking cues from, e.g., SIG USE (http://www.asis.org/SIG/SIGUSE/), though the benefit of using both sides is that users will not have to scroll as much to see all of the page content.  (The colors of the boxes were completely arbitrary, as is the lack of color over the rest of the site.)

I look forward to seeing many of you at the iConference this coming week!  Thanks for the helpful feedback so far, and please continue to let me know what you prefer for the site.

Best,
Angela

Hi,

Over the last few days I have sent three messages to the sigmet-officers list, but did not receive copies indicating that the list had accepted them.  However I received the Failure Notice message pasted below.  Is there a problem with the list?

I would be grateful for clarification.
Jonathan.

Dear all,
=C2=A0
I have looked at the Google doc on Web-site and on most points we seem to h=
ave reached a strong consensus.
=C2=A0
To me there are only two points that need further clarification:
(a)=C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 Officers: Four of the officers have=
provided an email address and affiliation; Stasa and Chaoqun have not prov=
ided an email address or affiliation, and Dietmar has provided only an emai=
l address in (which is in different format from that of the other officers)=
.=C2=A0 I suggest that the Web-site provides similar information on each of=
ficer.
(b)=C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 Email list: Whilst we acknowledge the hos=
ting of the SIGMETRICS list, we do not acknowledge the moderator.=C2=A0 I s=
uggest that we also acknowledge Gretchen Whitney.=20
=C2=A0
Angela, could you please draft a prototype for the Web-site?
=C2=A0
Best regards,
Jonathan.
