[Sigmet-officers] Updates and action items

Angela: I think a SIG/MET Twitter account would be useful for those of
us using Twitter heavily for academic community-building and updates. I
wouldn't expect anyone with significant experience in both media to see
a Twitter account competing with a listserv; the two occupy very
different niches in scholarly communication. The same is true of
listservs and in-person discussion, or electronic and paper
correspondence for that matter.
I'd be glad to volunteer to help update a SIG/MET account. That said,
I've gotten the sense that our community is a bit more technologically
conservative than some of our counterparts in CS or digital humanities,
for example. I've found very few *metricians on Twitter. But, as Cassidy
said of Facebook, it can't hurt.
Cassidy: 1) Agreed, great idea about publicising the CFP before formal
acceptance of the workshop. 2) I think I agree, but what do you mean by
""sponsor"?" (may be the first time I've ever scare-quoted scare-quotes.
It was fun.)
General:
This is likely too radical for many of our membership, but I'll throw it
out there: I see no reason why we couldn't just self-publish the
workshop proceedings using EPrints, like the WebScience conference does
[1]. Or even easier, we could use Annotum [2], a WordPress-based
scholarly publishing platform.
re: webinars, of course I'd vote for an "emerging metrics" one at some
point, since that's my research area :). But I do think there's some
growing interest there, an expanding literature, and a crop of new tools
like http://total-impact.org, http://altmetric.com, and others.
