[Sigmet-officers] change your SIG to MET

Hi,
Angela raised an interesting point. Thanks Dock for your offer. In addition Jan emailed me “For those that don’t have any SIGs, we can assign them to SIG MET. For the others, we’ll email them to see if they either want to switch or pay to have it added.”
The problem with doing it ourselves is that we don’t have a membership officer and so there is no one with responsibility to write to those who expressed interest. Through a message to the SIGMETRICS list and a non-personalised email to those who initially supported the SIG, I obtained six people who were willing to help with the SIG. However, Jan informed me that only ASIST members can be officers, and the only ASIST member amongst the six did not agree to be a Membership Officer.
Could any of the officers find anyone willing to be a membership officer or is any of the officers willing to do this as an additional task? If not, I suggest that we take up the Jan and Dick’s offer.
Happy holidays!
Jonathan.

I would have done that but thought it was better coming from the officers rather than my normal bureaucratic blather.

Should someone send an email to the sigmetrics listserv to let others know they can change their free SIG?

Dear all,
Jan sent me the following clarification regarding Judit's query (pasted below) on changing SIGs: “Any member can change their free SIG to MET ... Our membership department will change your SIG to MET ... As for the others changing their sig, it’s best if they send membership at asis.org an email.”
It would help our credibility if all officers were to ask membership to change your SIG to MET.
Best regards,
Jonathan.

Dear All,
An administrative question, when you renew your membership to ASIST, which I did a few days ago, you can choose to become a member of one of the SIGs for free and join other SIGs for $10. I could not chose SIGMETRICS, because it had not yet been listed as a proper SIG. Do you know what is the process of joining the SIG not at membership renewal time? I assume that since it costs to be a SIG member, funds are transferred to the SIG.
Regards,
Judit
