Hello SIG LT'ers,
Here are a few thoughts on the "disparate data" panel I would like to
propose for the 2008 ASIS&T Annual Meeting (deadline is January 23
http://www.asis.org/Conferences/AM08/AM08_cfp.doc).

The question -
User expectations for access and retrieval for disparate
data/information have changed with the advent of the everyday search
engine. What are libraries and information professionals doing to
meet these expectations?

Possible areas to cover -
Research:
   Managing/retrieving/accessing information in disparate data
formats; metadata issues, usability ... other issues???

Some possible application areas:
   federated search/metasearch
   digital libraries/data repositories
   next generation "library catalogs"

Data types:
traditional library catalog information, bibliographic citations,
full text, images, sound files, videos, data sets, biographic data

I welcome ideas (I have a few, but the more the merrier)! Any ideas
are good, so this panel can better represent the interests of SIG-LT
membership. Are there other areas that could/should be covered,
possible speakers, anything else? Just let me know. I plan to make
contact with speakers as soon as possible, and definitely before the
upcoming December holidays.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts, Janet
