Towards optimizing the knowledge workforce
The path of least resistance in dealing with exponentially increasing unstructured data during Web 1.0 was a loose combination of integration, spam filters, virus scans, and intelligent algorithms serving up come-as-you-are searching; addressing symptoms rather than attempting to cure the disease.
While an understandable reaction to the crisis of computer network enabled wasted time at work, this amalgamation of prescriptions produced similar results to the other party of this analogous relationship, including spiraling costs, frequent errors, and poor decision making. One notable exception was a proper diagnosis and prescribed course of treatment from the Web's founder, Tim Bernards-Lee, who perceived early on the need for a "consistent logical web of data". Conceptually, the Semantic Web provides a foundation from which solutions could be built, if of course the content were as free from conflict as a Universal Resource Identifier (URI) like the URL or HTTP.
Web 2.0 however is not as mathematically convenient as its predecessor.....
