Stan's comments are stressing an interesting aspect of what may called an
intrusion of the global in our lives, at the expense of the significant.
Even though anyone can be sorry for the victims of Isabel, especially when they
are friends, its media coverage can certainly be seen as an example of this
phenomenon.
And then the relative importance, when not the real nature and consequence of
events tends to become illusion or media manipulation.
One may argue that media excess have no relationship with the sphere of
professional information. But, like it or not, as Stan showed they sort of
condition the mindsets of most people on a day to day basis.
By the way the alledged relatives of African leaders who fill our inboxes with
nonsense may in their real world have a much different origin. But no one seems
to care of additional prejudice, though moral, for a continent whose people
suffer more than many others.
