CALL FOR PAPERS - EXTENDED DEADLINE FOR 
SUBMISSIONS

Theme :
The revitalization of libraries for the 21st century

You are invited to submit proposals for papers and posters that will 
focus on areas that relate to the theme of the conference. Papers 
and posters on topics such as the following will be considered for 
inclusion in the conference programme:  

- Library and information needs in the 21st century

- Designing and delivering library and information services for 21st
century users 

- Vibrant libraries - their creation and revitalization 

- Using technology to create 21st century libraries  

- Libraries meeting Africa's information needs in the 21st century  

- Education of librarians and information workers for the 21st 
century  

- Advocacy for 21st century libraries  

- Staffing libraries and information centres for the 21st century  

- Revitalized libraries for development

The EXTENDED deadline for the receipt of proposals will be 15 
May 2002  

Proposals, in hard copy or electronic format  must be sent to:

1. Preference will be given to short papers based on practical 
experience.

2. Papers on the topics listed are preferred, but papers on related 
topics may also be considered.  

3 Papers must be in English.

4 Submissions must include the full title of the paper, the author(s) 
and institutional affiliation, brief CV of the author(s) and an abstract

of 250- 400 words of the paper.  

5. The abstracts of accepted papers may be published in the 
conference programme.  

6 Authors of accepted papers will be notified as soon as possible 
after 31 May 2002.  

7 No correspondence will be entered into about acceptance or non-
acceptance of papers.

8 The final version of the full paper must be submitted in MS 
WORD or WordPerfect by 13  September 2002 for publishing on 
the LIASA website. NO slides (Powerpoint or other format) will be 
accepted without a full-text version of the paper.  

9 Papers presented at the LIASA Conference will be considered for 
publication in the LIASA journal. Papers may only be submitted to 
other journals for publication after the conference.  

10 This call for papers is for the Plenary and Parallel sessions of 
the conference. Papers which are more suitable for the Interest 
Group sessions, will be forwarded to the relevant interest group 
convenors for consideration for inclusion in Interest Group meetings.
