      Year End Nears, Annual Meeting on Horizon

Dear SIG-IFP Members, the year is rapidly coming to a close, and the 
2006 Annual Meeting is almost upon us. This year it will be held from 
November 3 to 8 in Austin, Texas. I hope you are planning to be there, 
and that you will bring ideas on improving your SIG, as well as ideas 
for papers and panel topics for the 2007 Meeting.



      SIG-IFP to Sponsor Panel at 2006 ASIST

We are very pleased this year to be collaborating with SIG-III in 
cosponsoring the panel: "Life After WSIS: Lessons Learnt and 
Implications for the Information Professions". The panelists include:

Leslie Chan, Bioline Int'l and University of Toronto at Scarborough.
Robert Guerra, Privaterra
Sheri Webber, Florida State University
Johannes Britz, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Nadia Caidi (University of Toronto) and John Gathegi (Florida State 
University) will moderate.

The panel will be held on Tuesday November 7, 2006 at 1:45 p.m.  


       


      SIG Web Site Moved to Milwaukee!

In the past few months, the SIG-IFP web site moved from the College of 
Information at Florida State University to the University of Wisconsin 
at Milwaukee, where it is hosted by the School of Information Studies. 
Our thanks to all the student volunteers!


      Welcome New SIG-IFP Chair!

Please join me in welcoming Tom Lipinski as the incoming SIG Chair!

Tomas A. Lipinski was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, on November 16, 
1958.  After completing his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Marquette 
University Law School, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he received the Master of 
Laws (LL.M.) from The John Marshall Law School, Chicago, Illinois, and 
the Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Mr. 
Lipinski has worked in a variety of legal settings including the 
private, public and non-profit sectors. He has taught at the American 
Institute for Paralegal Studies and at Syracuse University College of 
Law. In summers he is a visiting associate professor at the Graduate 
School of Library and Information Science, University of Illinois at 
Urbana-Champaign (1999-present), and at the Department of Information 
Science, School of Information Technology at the University of Pretoria, 
Pretoria, South Africa (1999-2003). 

Professor Lipinski currently teaches, researches and speaks frequently 
on various topics within the areas of information law and policy, 
especially copyright, privacy and censorship issues in schools and 
libraries, and serves as Co-Director of the Center for Information 
Policy Research at the University of --Milwaukee and an Associate 
Professor at its School of Information Studies. Recent monographs 
include an ALA editions publication co-authored with Mary Minow: THE 
LIBRARY'S LEGAL ANSWER BOOK (2003); as well as COPYRIGHT LAW AND THE 
DISTANCE EDUCATION CLASSROOM (2005) (Scarecrow Press, Inc.); and 
(forthcoming) THE COMPLETE COPYRIGHT LIABILITY HANDBOOK FOR LIBRARIANS 
AND EDUCATORS (Neal-Schuman Publishers, Inc.).

      2006 Annual Report in Preparation

I am in the process of compiling the 2006 SIG-IFP Annual Report. Please 
send any items you want considered for inclusion in the report by 
September 28, 2006.

I have enjoyed working with all those who volunteered your time working 
with SIG-IFP and I look forward to more collaboration in the future, 
both within and outside the SIG. Best wishes and good luck!
