Hello everyone,

With it being a brand new year, I thought it would be worthwhile making you all aware of our most interesting UX / IXD roles that we are looking for people for. Below are some short, top level descriptions of the roles, if any of them look interesting, send me a response letting me know which one you would like more information on, and I send you more documentation and give you a full brief.

Global design studio – midtown Manhattan – Senior IXD - $90-110k
This global studio (not an agency) are quite a rarity in New York. A small, agile, collaborative, UX focused design studio, creating more than one touch point for their clients (service design). The production process is as you would imagine; lots of time and freedom to gather requirements and conduct primary research (both business and user) From here, lots of collaborative sketching, whiteboarding, paper prototyping, often times involving the clients themselves. From this, the final design direction is quantified and consolidated, and hi-fidelity prototypes are produced, then on to build and delivery (partnering with external companies). IXD’s work hand in hand with dev, visual design, business analysts, and stakeholders throughout the process.

Global financial services company – Jersey City – Senior IA - $90-110k
The company have a long tradition of building great products, and without relying on external agencies. They have invested time and effort over the years in refining how their internal ‘agency’ works in tandem with the business, to craft great experiences for all the digital products, whether internally focused, or for consumers. The design team is composed of UX folks, visual designers, developers, and content strategists, all working closely with the product owners (who are at the coal face of the products, with the users, and help define the business cases and requirements for each project). Usability and testing specialists, working out of the fully equipped on-site usability lab, support the design team, and are integrated into the agile process.
Client side design teams, especially with user experience as a component, can vary so wildly in how well integrated with the business they are. This company have solved a lot of these problems, over years of trial and error, and are now in a position where their experience design team is well integrated and well respected, and can focus on the business of crafting the best possible experiences for their users.

Full service digital agency – Midtown Manhattan – junior and senior UX designer - $70-110k
The agency’s projects are primarily in the pharmaceutical realm (don’t switch off just yet), with some significant work in the sporting arena too. The split is around 70-30 in favor of pharma, but the work they are doing in this space is not the usual restrictive, regulation heavy snoozeathon stuff that a lot of other agencies are bogged down in, it’s genuinely interesting, complex work.
UX becomes involved at the point of pitch, and is one of the first disciplines through the door at the kick off point for a project, gathering requirements, getting under the skin of the business. From there, UX will drive the research and requirements phase, with generous budget and time afforded to user access. In the current set-up, the design process is lead by the senior UXD, who defines page templates, primary journeys and flows, screen and IA concepts and templates, content and data relationships, taxonomies, lots of sketching and whiteboarding. The more junior UX designers will then work on the more detailed wireframes and documentation, all the way up to working prototypes or functional specs, ready for build by the dev team.

Global financial services – uptown Manhattan – Senior IA - $100-160k
This organisation is synonymous with the world of finance like no other. It’s a good bet that if you ask any trader, analyst, or broker, which product they couldn’t live without, it would be this one. Responsible for literally billions of dollars, pounds and yen flying around the world every second of the day, and with over 300,000 daily users worldwide, this product has grown to be worth over $6billion a year to the company. And they want some new experience designers to help make it even better.
The experience design team consists of interaction designers, usability analysts, visual designers, and prototypers, all working collaboratively and agile. The product managers will work with the XD team to turn ideas into concepts, concepts into design, design into product. Everything is based around user needs, there is no guessing, or following an unsubstantiated business requirement. The product feeds every detail of user behavior back to the company, and it is this that forms the basis of the project requirements.
The experience design team have high visibility within the company, with a direct reporting line into one of the organizations founders. They have a huge amount of hard won respect, and financial support, which has allowed them to create a state of the art usability lab from scratch, and to pay their designers whatever they need in order to stay motivated and happy. An agile studio set-up, but with the security of a fortune 100 company. Rare indeed.

Drop me a line if any of these look interesting to you, letting me know which ones you would like more information on.

Kind regards,
