DUANE BRAY, interaction designer and head of Digital Media for IDEO,
and RYAN JACOBY, who leads IDEO’s Business Design discipline, will co-
lead a discussion about the intersection of interaction and business
design. Drawing on examples from IDEO’s past work as well as
inspirational stories elsewhere in the world, the two will consider
the question of how interaction and business designers approach
problems, how the relationship between the two disciplines has
changed, and how collaboration can lead to rich user experiences and
business solutions.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS
Duane Bray
As a partner at IDEO, Duane heads the firm’s global Digital
Experiences practice, with a focus on new media and entertainment.
Duane joined IDEO in 1995 to lead and develop the discipline of
interaction design, now one of the firm’s most sought-after
capabilities. With a background in communication design and
interaction design, his experience includes the development of major
software and hardware programs and the integration of emerging
technologies into human-centered products and services. To further the
increasing crossover between technology and lifestyle companies, Duane
explores the intersection of technology and people, revealing and
elevating the emotional connections that people forge with digital
media. Duane holds an MFA from the University of Florida and was given
an Outstanding Achievement Award as a prestigious alumnus.
Ryan Jacoby
Ryan, an associate partner, is passionate about applying design
thinking to business strategies for growth. Ryan helps lead IDEO’s
design for business efforts and coordinates knowledge sharing and tool
development across all of IDEO’s business factors practitioners.
Although he has an MBA and an engineering degree, Ryan is most proud
of being referred to as the “prototype graduate” from Stanford’s Hasso
Plattner Institute of Design. While at IDEO, Ryan has led or worked on
an array of projects in such areas as food and beverage, athletics and
apparel, electronic gaming, financial services, and
telecommunications. At least one of these projects has had a lasting
effect—leading a running project has transformed Ryan into a runner.
