The interactions in the current crop of Surface demos are all
entertainment-oriented and short-duration, involving only 'direct'
manipulation of virtual objects. A sophisticated version of playing
with blocks, which nobody is going to do all day.
Look at Jeff Han's demos of more robust virtual tools and controls at
PerceptivePixel.com (video at http://link.brightcove.com/services/
link/bcpid713271701/bclid713073346/bctid709364416), and you start to
get the idea that the _devoted_ audience is going to be people who
have to do a lot of fast, accurate visual analysis and/or remote
collaborative decision-making regarding visual materials.
When someone applies this technology to a traditional slanted
drafting table is when I start thinking of multi-touch systems as
being out of beta.
