User Centered Design Director (Wachovia Bank, San Leandro, CA)

Role
The User Centered Design Director leads a multidisciplinary team with 
broad capabilities in experience design. These capabilities include 
information architecture, interaction design, usability engineering, 
graphic design and CSS/HTML design. 
 
Responsibilities
*  Provide leadership, management and coordination as needed to the West 
Coast User Centered Design team (Information Architects/Interaction 
Designers, Usability Engineers and Web Designers)
*  Communicate and evangelize about user centered design and usability 
testing within the Interactive Design Group and beyond
*  Help create the vision for websites and help plan for evolution and 
growth of sites over time
*  Collaborate with interaction designers, usability engineers, business 
partners, developers, and graphic designers to design the information 
architecture of web sites and their component elements
*  Direct and advise with research efforts around our business partners' 
organizations, their goals, their users, and their content
*  Support research and site performance assessment needs with metrics 
collection strategies, consulting and reporting
*  Participate in user modeling, storyboarding, scenario development, 
high-level use case definition, task analysis, and other activities to 
capture and develop user requirements and integrate these into the product 
design
*  Apply a user-centered design methodology to all projects
*  Implement and manage a state-of-the-art digital usability lab and 
establish a new usability testing practice
*  Ensure adherence to brand standards in graphic design and support 
online brand governance
*  Enforce and contribute to HTML/CSS coding standards in support of 
Standards Based Design, accessibility and device independence
*  Oversee production of web pages that exhibit and conform to HTML/CSS 
design and coding standards.

Required Skills
*  Demonstrated leadership in user experience design for the web.
*  Competency in information architecture, interaction design, usability 
engineering and usability testing. 
*  Understanding of web design and production issues. 
*  Public speaking proficiency and experience.
 
Preferred Skills/Experience
*  Incumbents typically have a Master's degree in human factors, 
information science, cognitive psych or related field
*  Experience running usability tests in a formal lab and managing the lab 
environment
*  Experience with Content Management Systems
*  Experience working in large corporation
*  Knowledge of financial services
