Have the book. Love it. Been blogging the 10 laws (http:// 
toddwarfel.com). So, you can read up on them there (although I'm only  
on #3).

The quote is from rule #9
Failure - Some things can never be made simple

I'll offer this quote to help address the question of never being  
able to simplify something.

"One man's failed experiment in simplicity can be another man's  
success as a beautiful form in complexity." (page 83)

Maeda goes on later in the chapter to explain that simplicity and  
complexity are symbiotic – kind of like good and evil (my words here,  
not his). Without complexity, we wouldn't know what simplicity is.

The key is to keep in mind all 10 of his laws, not just isolate a and  
focus on a single law. They all work together.
