One of the sad things about Microsoft is that their demos almost always
leaves one disappointed, even cringing at their clumsiness and inability to
emotionally connect with their audience, sometimes despite the powerful
potentialities signaled by the technology at hand.

Not this one, to be sure.

Their recent acquisition of Seadragon Software:

led to Photosynth:

There have been bits and pieces of Photosynth out there but the demo I
really liked is the one by Blaise Aguera y Arcas, the co-creator of
Photosynth, at TED2007:

Impressive.

(It cries to be integrated with Microsoft Surface, doesn't it?)
