Indeed. The *promise* of iPhone is beyond that: inspire new ways of
designing to eliminate/minimize incessant text entry, clicking, etc. This
will take a long time. Designers will have to learn new approaches, some
simple examples of which I cited earlier. Folks prettify their Terminal app
by installing fancy fonts, tabs, background colors, tabs, etc. And yet it
still is CLI. We have the rest of the OS/apps in stark GUI contrast to that.
Keynote doesn't do everything PowerPoint does. Aperture doesn't do
everything Photoshop does. iPhone won't do everything Treo does. Just as
Macintosh didn't do everything DOS could at the time.
I'm appalled some people even if peripherally involved in design don't grok
this.
