Just to toss the proverbial cat amongst it...

I've been following this thread with interest and rereading Tara  
Hunt's GOVIS presentation Unmanaging: Unleashing the creative beast  
at the same time (I'm using it as a resource for a KM presentation I  
have in a couple of weeks).

In her talk, Tara argues against innovation for innovation's sake.   
Rather, she suggests that encouraging creativity (and therefore high  
morale and productivity) and motivating people to be creative you get  
innovation as a valuable by-product.
