Senior Information Architect/Interaction Designer

Wachovia, the nation?s fourth largest bank, is looking for an exceptional 
information architect/interaction designer to join the Web Usability Team 
at our headquarters in Charlotte, NC. The ideal candidate will be a 
practical-minded perfectionist with the ability to both create compelling 
concepts and work through complex details. We are looking for an 
experienced practitioner who can handle a range of project types: early 
prototyping, redesigns, complex application interactions, and 
content-heavy website design. You should have extensive experience working 
in collaborative environments, integrating user-centered design, 
technology, and business strategy. You should enjoy working independently, 
taking initiative, and innovating.

Responsibilities
* Work closely with business partners and user researchers to gather and 
understand key business strategies and user needs, to translate the 
strategies and needs into sound design, such as usable organization and 
navigation systems.
* Utilize user-centered methodologies (e.g., contextual inquiry, 
ethnographic interviews) to understand and analyze user experience, 
expectations and requirements
* Participate in user modeling, storyboarding, scenario development, 
high-level use case definition, task analysis, prototyping, and other 
activities to capture and develop user requirements and integrate these 
into the product design
* Collaborate with interaction designers, usability engineers, developers, 
and graphic designers to design and implement information architecture of 
the website and its component elements
* Design and simulate user interface and interaction flow through Visio 
page/screen mockups and/or iRise simulations
* Share tasks with usability engineers and interaction designers as 
appropriate to develop skills and balance workloads
* Perform heuristic analyses of sites (internet site, subsites, and 
competitor sites) to assess strengths and weaknesses, capture ?low hanging 
fruits? and suggest testing needs
* Contribute to knowledgebase of interaction design and UCD information
* Participate in user-centered design related professional development 
activities
* Assist in the continual improvement of the Web Usability Team?s 
processes and methods, and the documentation associated with them

Requirements:
* Minimum 3 years dedicated experience in information architecture and 
interaction design for web sites
* Bachelor?s or higher degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction 
Design, or related field
* User-centered IA/ID skills demonstrated through an outstanding 
portfolio, including but not limited to: conceptual diagram, site map, 
wire frame, functional specifications, and interaction flow
* Experience with requirement visualization and prototyping tool such as 
Visio and/or iRise
* Proven ability to manage clients, communicate persuasively, influence 
and lead multi-disciplinary teams to consensus on design decisions
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Ability to translate business and brand strategy effectively while 
balancing these with user needs and technological constraints
* Familiarity with technical issues around web development and ability to 
work constructively with development teams, including but not limited to 
understanding of HTML, JavaScript, DHTML, various multimedia applications 
such as Flash
* Familiarity with user-centered research, such as usability testing, 
contextual inquiry, and field interviews
* Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills


Preferred Skills/Experience:
* Excellent analytical skills and familiarity with web analytics tools 
such as Hitbox and Web Trends, and the ability to relate the data from 
those tools to marketing, merchandising, and customer usage behaviors
* Background in sales or marketing with a focus on persuasion and 
effective online merchandising.
* Work experience in the financial services industry 
* Familiarity with a content management system, such as Vignette
* Great attitude and ability to handle change
* Creativity and attention to detail
