Dear Stew,

Thanks for your comments to our Members Benefits - lots of valid
criticisms, but this isn't the place to debate these. Suffice to say,
I appreciate where you're coming from and will take your remarks
under advisement. But summa summarum, perhaps you shouldn't join.

Rembember, we have close to 1000 members. They, too, have needs, even
if you don't share these. Hell, I'm a member of ASIST, but couldn't
care less about much of the stuff I read in the Journal because
hard-core library science isn't my thing. But this doesn't mean it's
a bad publication or an irrelevant organization.

The Institute's Job Board has been very successful. But if you're not
looking for a job, then it probably has no interest whatsoever.
Geography does play a role, but less and less so as our discipline
matures. The Institute is playing a role here, too.

If you're an established IA, you probably don't want a Mentor. I'd
hope you'd *become* a Mentor for someone less experienced.

Our events calendars *are* open to anybody. You don't need to be a
member to see them, so your criticism is unfounded.

I could go on, but hey, let's get back to more important issues. And
thanks to Dick Hill for giving me a soap box this past day - which
says a lot about how Dick and I view our respective organizations.

Best,
Eric
