Job Title: Product Manager
Job Code: 154309
Location: WA - Redmond
Be a strategic part of the team that will enable Microsoft engineering
workgroups to realize their full potential for innovation and performance
through world-class learning strategies, including content, curriculum, and
community resources. Engineering Excellence is looking for a skilled
taxonomy/metadata manager to provide thought leadership in Microsoft asset
management, including content and learning assets.
In your role as taxonomy/metadata manager, you will be responsible for
expanding and maintaining a central repository of metadata schemas and
vocabularies. Business owners will use these tools to classify and tag data
and assets published in the Engineering Excellence Handbook; on
Microsoft.com and support.microsoft.com sites; and in other information
products, as well as to profile customers and manage data in other internal
systems. You will drive the corporate content metadata strategy, including
management and maintenance of the standard metadata schema and standard
taxonomy vocabularies currently used by content teams across the company.
You will collaborate with taxonomy partners and other standards groups
across the company to evangelize metadata standards and to increase adoption
of the standard taxonomy and metadata schemas within internal toolsets.
Your role will include managing the Microsoft profiling taxonomy, including:
Managing the relationship with our taxonomy vendor, planning vocabularies,
and providing quality assurance.
Gathering customer feedback and define the strategic direction of the
taxonomy and metadata program.
Evangelizing the taxonomy outside of Microsoft so we can share content with
Partners and influence industry standards.
Supporting current and future consumers of the taxonomy services
Partnering with other language services, including US English and localized
terminology, to leverage concept data more efficiently
As a subject matter expert in metadata, taxonomy, and asset management, you
will help provide the backbone that will transform sites and information
products across the company into content services for customers and
partners. You will consult with content and marketing teams across the
company as they plan for metadata adoption and drive requirements into
taxonomy/schema development and tagging/metadata storage tools. You will
also consult with teams that will consume vocabularies or implement
metadata-based content services.
As a key member of the Engineering Excellence group, you will work closely
with groups across Microsoft to define and execute the metadata strategy
that we will use to transform the Engineering Excellence Handbook and
learning management system to provide access to relevant content to over
25,000 product group employees spanning all IT and engineering disciplines.
In support of this goal, you will also collaborate to drive technical
requirements into our asset management tools.
