Part of the solution could be in the open discussion
(evangelizing?) of IA contributions. While
discussions on technology, security, privacy,
politics, etc. Popular discussion of IA/ID/UX is
limited to the iPod and other assorted handheld
devices. And Jakob Nielsen. Granted, he's not an
"IA", but a search on his name returns 1.87 million
hits. A search on Peter Morville returns just
236,000.

While we do have: http://iaslash.org/

http://findability.org/
http://louisrosenfeld.com/

They're all very much preaching to the choir and not
welcoming the the new and uninformed. Think of
something on the order of Slashdot, Fark, Boing Boing,
Digg, Reddit, et al. They're open, accessible and
invite discussion. One counter example is our own
discussion here, living within our respective inboxes.

one issue is that most companies don't do any due
diligence to understand their needs and what type of
creative
they need.

second there is still the perception by business
owners and product managers that ia's are there to
"document" the interface they've created.
