I can't search right now for a link, but there have been a number of these
experiments in the past couple of years, along the lines of
(http://www.tenbyten.org) but with just words/short titles. Not from
high-traffic sites, though.

Agreed.

Having spent a bit of time studying the SmartMoney Marketmap for a client,
I'm not a fan of these spatial mappings. At first, they look clever but
continued use reveal them to be too clever for their own good. Perhaps I'll
write up something longer on this one day.

What do you like about it from a interface/interaction POV?
