I think the answer here is that it can be a holistic process with the
right people, and a disaster with the wrong people. We're not all
created equal; we all have various limits, skills, views and opinions
on pretty much anything out there. For example, I personally work
great within a holistic "free do do what the hell I want" model as
well as within a process with stupid constraints (after I've whinged
about it, trying to change it, fighting it, and finally being told by
my loving wife that it really doesn't matter in the great scheme of
things, of course), but I know people that would great or crap in
either category but never both at the same time. It's a strange and
wonderful world.
