[Sigia-l] Farewell

Just wanted to say goodbye.

Most people will not know me but I joined up to this list on 24th April
2000 after attending the 1st IA summit in Boston (and later the 2nd in
SF). I participated in the list discussions for a little while but
eventually just resorted to lurking. I have enjoyed reading it for the
last seven years. (I just checked the count and I have 16,250 emails
from sigia in my archive - I didnt read all of them by any means, but
did get through a fair proportion!)

For me, as an academic teaching in an Information Management School (at
RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia), you have all been a wonderful
source of ideas and issues. I thank you all for your (usually) thought
provoking, intelligent, sophisticated, discussions. (However it has to
be said that there are also discussions that are sometimes just
completely ridiculous, to wit: as an Australian I find it significant
that one of the last discussions on the list that I have followed was
initially concerned with Australian copyright legislation but quickly
became an analysis of Australian beers.)

I am leaving academia at the end of next week, after 20 years, to
become a primary school teacher in the new year. I am half tempted to
remain on the list but I know that in fact, in my new life, I would
hardly ever get around to reading it - so I say with great fondness ...

Farewell and thanks,

Henric
