Hi Patricia,

We can learn a few things from the BBC. On the main page they have  
their subject based categories. These display trigger words that show  
sub-categories or items within that category. It is very similar to  
the Yahoo! directory structure. Now, they don't touch their top level  
categories but keep changing their trigger words to reflect what's  
relevant. The search logs are consulted to figure that out.
For example, during the World Cup 2006, their sports category showed:
SPORTS
World Cup, Wimbledon, Golf, Cycling, ...

Today this shows:
SPORTS
Football, Cricket, Rugby Union, Tennis, Motorsport...

So, they shuffle their trigger words based on what's hot and what's  
relevant.
