Options are right there with apple pie and mom. However, that's not the way
of Apple.
I doubt that Mac OS X, for example, would legally boot on any, non-Apple
authorized Intel machine. As you know, the main reason why the user
experience is superior on Macs is that Apple doesn't have to account for an
infinite permutation of hw/sw compatibilities. That simply is NOT the Apple
way.
Incidentally, on the subject of this thread, the iPod eschews many, many
features, that its competitors never cease to list, for the ultimate aim of
streamlining the experience of listening to music, the gadget's principal
purpose. The fact that the iPod commands better than 3/4 of the market is a
testimony to the fact that options are not necessarily what drives consumer
preference. Indeed, the minimalist offering attracts the most users. (There
are people who think that if an abusing monopoly didn't exist in the PC
business the same would have occurred.)
So until Apple adopts the Microsoft way, your relishment will be deferred.
