I also have access through the University. I think they subscribe to
about a hundred titles.
I find it particularly useful for the O'Reilly nutshell books and
the programming cookbooks. I can look up a recipe or some little
detail quickly and without worrying if the book is on loan.
It also makes it easy to stay current with new editions. For
example, the second edition of the python cookbook was released
earlier this year. Safari makes it easy and cheap to replace the old
edition with the new.
For other things, like learning a new language or some advanced
topic, I usually prefer having the printed copy beside me.
I'm not sure if I would pay for this or not. But I've been very
happy with Safari so far.
