I work for a "full service" agency that regularly pitches for work on
both the design as well as build side of web projects. We usually have
to pitch for each separately, and if we get one side the client cannot
give us the other for "policy" reasons. Amazing that they purposefully
drive a wedge between design and build, but they do. If we get the
design work, then chances are we will never meet the build team, let
alone be able to discuss deliverables. So we tend to give the client
what they want to see - and who wouldn't?
Personally, I'd say this is the worst aspect of my job: spending time
creating artefacts without any certainty about whether they'll actually
be useful in implementing the design.
