The Web Usability Manager leads the information architecture, interaction 
design and usability engineering efforts for the Web site. The Web 
Usability Manager holds the dual role of working closely with the team to 
develop web structures that are user-centered and overseeing the 
organizational and professional development of the customer interaction 
group.

At present, the manager acts as the Lead Information Architect for 
Wachovia.com. The primary role of the Lead IA is to direct the development 
of the information architecture for Wachovia.com. Information architecture 
encompasses organization (classification, taxonomy), navigation (global, 
local, contextual, supplementary), labeling and search system design. 

Responsibilities include:

·       Provide leadership, management and supervision as needed to the 
Usability team
·       Communicate and evangelize about user centered design and 
usability testing within the IDG group and beyond
·       Help create the vision for the Web site and help plan for 
evolution and growth of site over time
·       Collaborate with interaction designers, usability engineers, 
business partners, developers, and graphic designers to design the 
information architecture of the Web site and its component elements
·       Consult on the development of usable organization and navigation 
systems, search engine interfaces and search engine configuration. May 
assist with the development of controlled vocabularies and thesauri
·       Direct and advise with research efforts around our business 
partners' organizations, their goals, their users, and their content
·       Participate in user modeling, storyboarding, scenario development, 
high-level use case definition, task analysis, and other activities to 
capture and develop user requirements and integrate these into the product 
design
·       Explore technologies that complement the abilities of humans to 
add value to information
·       Ensure integration of efforts within Wachovia by staying informed 
of major initiatives, collaborating with peers to combine efforts, and 
creating synergies where appropriate
·       Ensure that policy, procedures, and guidelines are developed and 
revised as well as followed in development and maintenance process
·       Apply a user-centered design methodology to all projects
·       Contribute to knowledgebase of interaction design and UCD 
information
·       Share tasks with information architects and interaction designers 
as appropriate to develop skills and balance workloads
·       Participate in user-centered design related professional 
development activities

Key Relationships include:

·       IA/ID/Usability and rest of UCD team, including Intranet team
·       eCommerce Producer Teams
·       eCommerce Business Managers & Business Units
·       Work with Customer Care, New Strategies, Marketing & other 
eCommerce departments to promote IA/UE/UCD topics

Required Skills:

·       Demonstrated leadership experience in field of information 
architecture, interaction design or usability engineering
·       Demonstrated management and supervision skills and experience
·       Demonstrated skill motivating a team
·       Public speaking proficiency and experience

Lead Information Architect Role Required Skills:

·       Ability to create site maps (blueprints) and mockup/interface 
designs (wireframes)
·       Understand the principles of information organization and user 
interface design
·       Understand and apply principles of user centered design to 
information architecture and interface design
·       3-5 years experience in electronic commerce and Internet 
information architecture, design, and usability testing
·       Demonstrated strengths in teamwork and leadership
·       Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams to consensus on design 
decisions
·       Ability to interact positively with all levels of employees and 
management
·       Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills
·       Excellent analytical skills

Preferred Skills/Experience:

·       Incumbents typically have a Master's degree in information 
science, librarianship, human-computer interaction, anthropology, 
cognitive psychology or related fields
·       Knowledge of financial services preferred
