Fair question. But if a user has to rely on a sitemap to know what kind of a
site they are in, you've got far more serious and fundamental design
problems than worrying about a sitemap. Sitemap is neither an alternative to
well-designed navigation nor a substitute for proper branding. Well-designed
and well-branded sites (or physical stores, for that matter) do not require
crutches for self-revelation.
