but are you even in the right store in the first place?

my local 7-11 sells hammers, and so could easily provide the answer "Aisle
5, left side, bottom" ... but if I have a lot of hardware bits and bobs to
get I'd rather be in a store that services that need.

When I walk into a physical store, I appreciate the knowing awareness that
is possible just by taking a good look, standing just inside the door. If
they were to instead hide all their goods inside little cupboards (and
provided excellent navigation to compensate), I wouldn't know whether this
is the place for me or not until I go through the bother of trying to fulfil
my shopping list. Risky.
