one more data point ...
I have stashed in my bookmarks bar a simple bookmarklet:
javascript:void(document.body.style.width='600px');void(document.body.style.
position='relative');
I usually surf about with a stash of tabs in one window, so resizing the
window to suit the page in the tab can be counter productive. I come across
many sites that want either 800 or 1024 width, and so my window is set to
accommodate that ... but then I come across a prehistoric page full of yummy
textual goodness which displays with lines stretching all the way over
there. That bookmarklet lets me view the text in a narrower column, about
10-15 words per line, perfect for reading.
Hmmm... maybe I should tweak it to set the width in ems instead?
