The point here is even if he asked the question in a manner that
sounds like he's asking for a generalized rule, BUT he has indicated
that he would be satisfied with any advice, even if it is short of
answering his original question (which again i think is probably
impossible [or that the answer is "well it varies dramatically from
situation to situation"]).

So stop giving the man a hard time and fork over some advice ;) (if
he's barking up the wrong tree, you might try and help him find the
proper try to bark up! :P )
