I'll tell you something even worse. :-)

It's not that there's no element of truth or utility in what passes as "best
practices", but that there's a class of people for whom the primary driver
is the avoidance of critical/contextual thinking and risk at any cost.
There's safety in numbers, standards, best practices, etc. I see signs of
this here, especially among some of the young souls, and that's saddening.
