Just realised that the Flash penetration graphic on this page
http://www.macromedia.com/software/player_census/flashplayer/ actually
shows only US penetration and for Flash version 2 !! The detailed
figures by version and region http://tinyurl.com/5yel show Flash 7 at
only 76% penetration in the US and 83% in the rest of the world.

Come on Ziya, you can't be arguing that Windows isn't the most widely
distributed OS platform. Sure, there are all sorts of questions [1]
about such market share figures but it's widely accepted that Windows
market share is in the range of [+-5%] the figure I mentioned above.
As I wrote to Russ, when someone from Macromedia wrote in to
substantiate the *survey methodology*, I had to question what seemed
like a suspect figure in the results. I'm just not ready to believe
that Windows Media Player is only on half the internet enabled
computers.
Moreover, as I said, I'm unsure if it was an independent survey by NPD
or it was commissioned by Macromedia. I would be very suspect of any
research commissioned by a company where that company stand to benefit
by publishing favorable results [2].
Russ, I wrote directly to you because your response had come only to me
and not to the list [there was no cc to sigia-l].
Manu.
