Question to Peter,

Are you only concerned with languages? Usually languages are not just
the language but also the region and some CMS's acknowledge this
through the separation of "locales" which is a combination of a
language and a region.
en-uk vs. en-us

Are you only doing translation, or are there other aspects of the
content to consider such as legal? What about slang? spelling
differences? etc.?

To create a language list, I look at the countries I want to target +
the people in those countries and then try to create a correlation to
the language they use in business. Based on just a really rash
generalization, I would imagine you could make do with the following:
English, French, German, Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Japanese,
Korean, Russian, Italian, Thai, Portuguese

After that, I would have to know more about the specifics of whom you
are trying to reach.
