Hi Jared,

Those misguided people like Kim Goodwin and Marc Rettig who do 
research first and build things later: who invited them to present at 
your conferences? ;-)

Cooper's persona-based approach to design, which Kim is largely 
responsible for, is all about up-front research and applying what's 
learned throughout the design process. They've been very generous to 
provide hands-on introductions in their Interaction Design Practicum 
and other courses
