Michael,

You asked "Does homepage content need to be clicked on in order for
the page to be successful?" -- I'd say "page success" is the wrong
thing to focus on.  Think about visitor and business success.

A few things to consider:

1. How successful are your visitors?  Are most of them being successful already?
2. Is the home page helping them succeed? Is it helping them fail or
struggle?  Or does it neither help nor harm?
3. Could a "better" home page help visitors (and/or your business) be
more successful?
