I think Google is like what's very aptly called Latent Semantic
Indexing (LSI). LSI can measure the degree to which documents in some
sense "belong together", usually because they are about roughly the
same thing. However, even the LSI people are very clear that this
doesn't tell you what the documents are about or *why* they are
clustered the way they are. That's why they call it *Latent* Semantic
Indexing.
