Billie,
See though, I think the difference, at least to my understanding is  
that you are saying the "role" of programmer should not take on  
design and the "role" of designer should not take on programming. To  
that I agree 100% and I think it translates across the board (e.g.  
the role of designer shouldn't project manage). Obviously, that's  
perfect world stuff and sometimes you just have to jump in and do  
what needs to be done, but ideally there is role separation.

The catch to all of this is the spirit of the original post, which I  
understood to mean that  someone that is a designer has the inability  
to code and someone that is a coder has the inability to design. That  
I agree with roughly 0%.
