When what we've expressed are being challenged, it is easy for us to
perceive the challenge as a form of personal attack when in fact it is
just a difference of opinions. Thus, it is better to respond to the
issue instead of the perceived personal attack.
Even when people actually call us by names, it says more about the
name-callers than anything else. And we can still respond to the issue
which is the reason most people subscribe to the list. So, stick to
the issue and let the explicit personal attack rolls off us like water
off a duck's back.

Indeed. However, one can take that to mean asking posters to walk on
eggshells. I believe it is much better for each of us to take
responsibility for our own perception and, when needed, seek
clarification.
