[Sigia-l] Questions about card sorting

Slow day here as well. I'have done a preliminary audit, without going
through every single page of every single manual. Is it snowing in
Calgary?

That's cool! The best IA's I know are largely self-taught because they
really like the discipline, and I think it makes them better for it. Of
our
8 IA's here, 6 were trained largely in-house ....
Pardon the unsolicited advice - it's a quiet day here in Calgary, so
feel welcome to tell me to clam up.
Are you doing any sort of content audit? It's a great thing to have done
(esp. if you can find some poor unsuspecting intern to do it) and it'll
help populate your card sort ....
Dave

You know, I'm not quite sure. I just started here a few weeks ago and
was handed the redesign project to work on along with the guy who did
the last one. Each department manages its' own content and the manuals
fall into their jusrisdiction. BTW - this is my first real IA gig. I'm
an ex-journalist just finishing a Masters in instructional design, which
was the closest thing I could find to IA education in my neck of the
woods.

No problem. Out of curiosity, how many discreet pieces of content do you
have outside of the manuals?

Thanks for the info. Dave. I should mention that many of those pages
are contained in huge training manuals that are restricted to certain
groups of users. They are not 14,000 individual pages that need to be
classified and linked.
