This is exactly why I believe we IA's should move up the food chain. The
problems we encounter about findability etc help broaden their
perspective. Databases contain mostly machine-readable data. We include
more of human-sensible information.

So maybe that is not the way to go. I have found that pointing them in
the direction of content lifecycle management helps a lot. This is a new
(and complete) definition of what they should do. I specifically use the
word content instead of data or information to keep away from that
discussion. The CLC I use includes create, publish, use, revise and
archive. It is relatively simple to show that a good information
architecture supports the entire lifecycle and that IA is more than a
single classification (you really do need multiple facets).
BTW what does highfalutin (high falutin?) mean? It sounds great; I want
to be able to put in into my active vocabulary!
