Companies believe that they've already taken care of their information
asset by having CIO responsible for the company databases. They see
information as data.

To have them see that they need "an architecture for the information",
they need a pragmatic distinction between information and data.

But after years of hand waving, such distinction is still not
forthcoming. Thus, "information is not data" is hair-splitting.
"Information Architecture" is a highfalutin name. IA is in limbo.
