Now here's a point that I'd have to disagree on.  Sort of.

I've pretty much "grown up" in consulting firms and started working in
design.  Since the onset, I've worked toward enhancing my knowledge so
that I can, indeed, do some development in .php, .asp, coldfusion and CSS
and javascript.

I know a lot of developers that do not think CSS and javascript languages
are really development...

**Sorry didnt mean to chop up your text, but I agree with you. I started out
a designer and use Javascript, CSS/XHTML, ASP, DHTML to build interfaces and
such. Do I do programming all day long, some days I feel like it, but no. I
feel in the middle because I do understand limitations when talking to our
IT dept.
I believe the cross-over can happen if the individual takes initiative and
learns new skills. And there will always be these hybrid-desolopers (coining
my own term) and many more to come.
