The other approach, of course, is to Googlize the whole process, with
algorithmic retrieval and no taxonomic prep work. Google started this with
.html pages, then extended it to .pdf, .doc, etc. Now email is getting the
same treatment, with Google taking down the notion of
mailboxes/folders/categorization/etc. Next is mail-list groups, with
Atom/RSS feeds. And soon connecting the dots between info repositories and
email-blogs-collaboration space within the enterprise context. Given the
enormous success Google has so far had and the rave reviews of GMail, it
would be reasonable to expect this approach to find great traction in the
fat part of the corporate bell curve.
